Gentle, Unhurried

Guided by Your Animal

You do not need to understand every spiritual idea associated with Reiki to decide whether you value a calm, respectful experience for your companion. The Sacred Paws process is simple: prepare carefully, create quiet, offer rather than impose, and let the animal choose.

Animal Reiki Session

Before the Session

A conversation about your animal

Nikki begins by learning about your companion as an individual: their age, temperament, daily routine, likes, dislikes and anything that helps them feel secure. This is not a veterinary consultation and no diagnosis is made. The purpose is to plan a session that feels considerate and safe.

A calm environment

A quiet room is needed for the duration of the session, where unnecessary noise, rushing and interruptions are reduced. Familiar bedding, normal access to water and the freedom to move can help the animal remain in control of their space.

Clear boundaries

Any handling rules, bite risks, escape risks, household dynamics or veterinary instructions should be shared in advance. Physical safety is always our top priority for your pet and Nikki.

During the Session

Grounding and quiet attention

Nikki takes time to breathe, ground and become fully present. Rather than moving directly towards the animal, she allows them to notice her and make their own decisions about distance. Wherever they are in the room, your pet will receive the Reiki energy.

Offering, not directing

Reiki is offered without demanding a response. The animal may rest nearby, remain across the room, change position or continue with ordinary behaviour. The session follows their pace rather than a rigid script.

A gradual close

The ending is calm and unhurried. If an animal has chosen to settle, Nikki avoids suddenly breaking the atmosphere. Afterwards, Nikki will relay her observations and reactions. There will be time for any questions or queries you may have.

How Animals May Choose to Respond

Visible behaviour varies enormously. Some animals become quiet; some remain alert; some move closer and others prefer distance. None of these responses proves a medical effect, and no single behaviour will be over-interpreted.

  • Settling in a favourite place
  • Changing position or choosing a different distance
  • Stretching, yawning or sighing
  • Watching quietly
  • Leaving and returning
  • Continuing to play, groom or rest normally

The Role of Consent and Choice

Animals cannot give verbal consent in the same way a person can, so Sacred Paws relies on practical respect: noticing body language, maintaining safe distance, avoiding restraint and accepting when an animal does not wish to engage.

  • No chasing or cornering
  • No requirement for eye contact or touch
  • No hindering an animal’s normal exit unless safety requires secure containment
  • No pressure on the guardian to book repeated sessions

After the Session

Most animals can simply return to their normal routine.

Keep water available, allow rest if they choose it and avoid creating a test in which you repeatedly check for a “result”.

The value of the experience may simply be that time was set aside for calm connection.

An aftercare guide will be sent to you prior to the session

Veterinary care remains essential

If your animal is unwell, injured, in pain, struggling to breathe, unusually withdrawn or showing a sudden change in behaviour, contact a veterinary professional. Do not wait for a Reiki session.

Myths and Reassurance

u

“My animal must be completely & totally still.”

They do not. Movement is allowed and expected. The session belongs to the animal, not the timetable.

“Reiki only works through touch.”

Direct touch is not required within Reiki practice. A respectful distance is often more comfortable for animals, especially those who are nervous, newly rescued or protective of their space.

q

“A strong reaction means something is medically wrong.”

No. Behaviour during a session is not a diagnostic test. Concerns about pain, illness, appetite, breathing, mobility or behaviour should be taken to a vet.

“I need to believe in Reiki for my animal to have a calm experience.”

You are welcome to be curious, spiritual, sceptical or somewhere in between. The practical foundations—quiet, patience, respectful distance and attention—remain the same.

Frequently ASked Questions

About How Reiki Works

Can I stay with my animal?

You can stay with your animal, but out of direct eyeline is helpful for the session. Nikki can explain the preferred setup in advance so that the environment stays calm and your animal remains comfortable.

What if there are several animals in the home?

This can be discussed before the session. Some animals may choose to remain nearby while others prefer a separate space. Safety, household routines and each animal’s temperament come first.

Can Reiki be used during end-of-life care?

Some families choose Reiki as a quiet, compassionate ritual alongside veterinary-led palliative or end-of-life care. It is not pain relief or medical treatment, but it may offer a meaningful period of stillness and loving attention for the family.

Will Nikki tell me what my animal is thinking?

Sacred Paws is grounded in observation, compassion and respect. Nikki has studied animal communication, but the session is not presented as a guaranteed translation service, diagnosis or certainty about an animal’s thoughts.

Are these veterinary or counselling services?

No. Sacred Paws does not provide veterinary diagnosis or treatment, psychotherapy, bereavement counselling or funeral-director services. Where specialist support is needed, contact an appropriately qualified professional.

Can I speak to Nikki before booking?

Yes. The website should make a brief introductory conversation easy to arrange so that you can ask questions and decide whether the approach feels right.
